First day and the new
floor joists are installed to the rear end of the loft and can be
seen here above the existing ceiling joists.
The rear chimney stack was
removed and an access hole is made to bring in all the loft
materials that are required.
The front supporting wall
is constructed on top of the new flitch plate timber which is also
taking the new floor joists as seen on the metal hangers.
The two front windows in
the bedroom are installed and the extra timbers required to
support the front sloping roof have also been installed along side
the existing roof timbers.
The weather is good so all
the rear roof tiles are removed together with the felt ready for
the construction of the rear dormer.
The rear dormer wall is
constructed with the window openings so that the flat roof timbers
can be installed.
The side
"cheeks" of the dormer are constructed and the external
face is ready to be boarded.

The remainder of the
internal old roof is now removed to give a better work space from
inside.

The dormer has been
boarded, felted and now battened ready for the new roof tiles to
be hung.
The inside is now
insulated with celotex and the floor can start to go down now that
the electrical cables and plumbing has been run into place.

The 1st floor landing
where the stairs are to be installed, the front bedroom wall was
removed and rebuilt 100mm into the room to allow the same size
staircase to be installed as the existing.
The staircase has now been
installed and the bedroom wall re-constructed.
The loft has been fully
insulated and is now almost plaster boarded and ready for
plastering.
The rear of the dormer has
now been plastered and the electrical and plumbing requirements
have been installed together with the new doors, skirting and
architrave.
Wardrobes were also
constructed for the customer from MDF so that they can be painted
any colour.
All the doors are now
fitted and the conversion is ready for decoration.
The bathroom was also
tiled in a brick type pattern with porcelain tiles.
The small cupboard was
made to take the new basin.
