The scaffold is up and two
holes are made by carefully removing the bricks for the steals to
be inserted
The steels arrive and are
craned up into place and then inserted into the house
The steals are now in
place and ready to be lined up. They form the support for the roof
by building an "ashlar wall" on top
The Ashlar wall is
constructed on top of the steal to support the load of the roof.
The new floor joists are also fitted alongside each of the
existing roof timbers and then bolted together before being cut
away
Double timbers are
inserted either side of any roof windows followed by the
horizontal trimmers ready for the Velux roof window
All the steals are in
place, the ashlar wall is finished and all the floor joists are
in. The horizontal "collar ties" are installed to form
the ceiling of the conversion and the existing roof timbers are
now all completely removed
The velux roof windows are
now installed. You can also see all the new larger sized timbers
(white) that are fitted alongside the existing ones (brown) to
increase the strength of the roof
The new staircase is
fitted

The solid oak handrail is
fitted to the first floor landing to form a balustrade between
each staircase
The walls have now been
plastered and the radiators and socket outlets are also installed
